What is tissue banking?
APC manages a rich biorepository (tissue biobank) of human prostate cancer samples and correlating data. The pathology, radiation / hormone therapy data and related quality of life data have been rigorously collected alongside human samples and provide a world-leading and unique resource. Approximately 40,000 samples of fresh tumour, benign and metastatic cancer, blood, plasma urine and fat have been preserved in three large nitrogen freezers.
We are one of only three centres in the world selected to collect and interrogate whole genome DNA sequencing of prostate cancer. We share the knowledge we glean from this bank with the world, contributing over 60% of the advanced metastatic prostate cancer samples analysed globally.
Tissue banking has been ongoing since 2005 at APC and houses over 60% of the advanced metastatic prostate cancer samples analysed globally.
